Driver loses control, causing fatal crash
Two people died and a 15-year-old girl was in critical condition Sunday after a pickup truck crashed into a tree on Pali Highway.
The crash happened at about 12:25 a.m. in the Kailua-bound lanes before the tunnels. A 24-year-old man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene, according to an Emergency Medical Services report. Paramedics took the girl to a hospital in critical condition.
Police said the Kailua man driving the vehicle lost control of the truck, which went off the highway and slammed into a tree. Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, police said. It was uncertain whether alcohol was involved.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call traffic investigators at 723-3413.
Police closed the Kailua-bound lanes of Pali Highway for several hours while they investigated.
