Kauai resort cited for health, safety violations
LIHUE » The U.S. Department of Labor wants to fine the Kauai Beach Resort nearly $50,000 for safety and health violations.
The department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration says it cited the resort for 14 violations. Serious violations include improper storage of propane tanks and unsafe electrical work by untrained maintenance staff. The resort is also cited for less serious violations including inaccurately completing OSHA’s log of work-related injuries and illnesses.
The resort faces a total of $48,000 in proposed fines after a routine OSHA inspection in February.
More than 270 employees work at the Lihue resort.
The general manager didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Today’s announcement comes as Gov. Neil Abercrombie is scheduled to deliver remarks at the Hawaii Association of County Building Officials conference at the resort.
