Malaekahana park closed for demolition, improvement project
Demolition starts Monday on five rental cabins at Malaekahana State Recreational Area as part of a park improvement project.
In addition to the removal of five rental cabins, two security residences and one office structure will be torn down and decaying and environmentally obsolete cesspools will be emptied and sealed, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said.
The project, costing $155,000, is expected to be completed in January.
The contractor is Integrated Construction, Inc.
The Kahuku park section has been closed since Friday due to tree hazards concerns. Park officials will address the tree hazards under a separate project during the park’s closure.
