SPRINGFIELD, Ill. » Former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner’s chief operating officer, will make an annual salary of $198,000, more than she made running the state of Hawaii.
The Quad-City Times reports Lingle will start drawing the pay after her current $60,000 contract with the state ends in June.
Rauner has described the 61-year-old Lingle as a "superstar" former governor who served eight years. She earned $117,306 during her last year in office.
She will be the latest member of Rauner’s administration to earn a six-figure salary. Beth Purvis is the Republican governor’s education czar and earns $250,000 annually. The governor’s chief of staff, Mike Zolnierowicz, makes $180,000 a year.

Maui home fire displaces 11
Fire destroyed a single-story residence in Kahului on Monday and displaced 11 people.
Firefighters responding to an 11:16 a.m. call found the Kea Street house engulfed in flames.
Firefighters focused on protecting neighboring homes. The blaze spread to one neighboring structure but was quickly contained.
A female occupant was at home with two other adults when the fire broke out. All three escaped the house, but the woman then found herself trapped by flames and smoke in the backyard. Firefighters broke through a neighbor’s fence to help her escape.
No injuries were reported.
Six adults and five children were displaced by the fire and are receiving aid from the Red Cross.
Damage was estimated at $500,000 to the structure and $100,000 to its contents. The neighboring home sustained minor exterior damage estimated at $10,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Sewage spills at Kauai plant
About 10,000 gallons of treated wastewater from the Wailua treatment plant overflowed from a manhole Tuesday morning and made its way to an area just outside the fence line of the plant at Lydgate Beach Park, Kauai County officials said in a news release.
The spill occurred sometime after 8 a.m. and was contained by about 8:50 a.m.
The cause of the spill is under investigation by county crews. Preliminary results indicate there is partial blockage of the sewer line leading to the ocean outfall or partial blockage of the ocean outfall, officials said.
