Legendary New York City retailer coming to Ala Moana Center
Famed New York retailer Bloomingdale’s will enter the Hawaii market in the fall of 2015 with a three-level, 167,000 square-foot store at Ala Moana Center.
Hawaii’s first so-called “Bloomie’s” is part of a redevelopment of the center by General Growth Properties. Bloomingdale’s parent company is Macy’s Inc., whose eponymous store replaced long time isle retailer Liberty House at the center years ago.
As with its other stores, the Ala Moana Bloomingdale’s will carry a wide range of designer and luxury goods including women’s apparel, shoes, accessories and beauty items as well as clothing and shoes for men and children, and a line of home goods.
The store is expected to employ 250 people. Bloomingdale’s will occupy part of the 650,000 square feet of retail space that will result when the Sears building is closed and demolished for redevelopment. Sears was a charter tenant at Ala Moana, opening when the center did in 1959.
