Hawaii’s Carissa Moore fell in the semifinal round, while Coco Ho and Malia Manuel lost in the quarterfinals of the Oi Rio Women’s Pro on Sunday in Rio de Janeiro.
Earlier in the day, Moore defeated Australia’s Keely Andrew in the quarterfinals 14.60 to 10.06 before falling to South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag 13.50 to 10.84 in the semifinals.
In the quarterfinals, Tyler Wright of Australia edged Coco Ho 11.67 to 11.50 and the USA’s Courtney Conlogue beat Malia Manuel 11.50 to 10.20.
Conlogue went on to win the event.
UH Hilo softballers on West Region team
Colleen Aubrey and Vanessa Salinas were selected to the 2015 NFCA Division II West Region team by regional coaches on Sunday.
For the senior outfielder Aubrey, it’s her third award of the season, having collected All-PacWest first-team honors and second-team Daktronics All-Region. As the team’s leadoff batter, she hit .425 and drove in 26 RBIs.
In the circle, Salinas was also a second-team All-PacWest honoree. In her senior season, she went 18-8 with a 1.98 ERA and struck out 91.
Hedlund and Chang at Quarterback Club
Kaia Hedlund, the president and race director of the Waikiki Rough Water Swim, will be the featured speaker at Monday’s meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.
Hedlund is also the president of Kico Sports and director of the "Swim with Mike" program and will talk about gender equity and take questions. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Spencer Chang will join Hedlund on the stage.
The meeting is held at the Maple Garden restaurant. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m., with the program beginning at noon.
