The Search for Signs of Hawaiian Life: North Carolina

LOT LAU
LOCAL LINGO, FLAVORS
A restaurant with the unlikely name of Haoles Sushi & Sake Bar demands photographic evidence. Peggy and Lot Lau of Hono?lulu got the proof last month on Hatteras Island in North Caro?lina. Lot Lau said he prefers to eat what the locals eat when on vacation. On this trip that meant “flounder, crab cakes, barbecue pork, soft-shelled crab sandwiches, scallops, fried oysters,” he said. Haoles, which is owned by a former Big Island resident, serves both Hawaii favorites and North Carolina seafood, he said.
