Saint Louis alumnus Ka'ai Tom, who recently completed his junior season at Kentucky, has agreed to terms on a deal with the Cleveland Indians.

Saint Louis alumnus Ka’ai Tom, who recently completed his junior season at Kentucky, has agreed to terms on a deal with the Cleveland Indians, who selected him in the fifth round (No. 154) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last Tuesday.

Tom, who hit .375 with 16 doubles, five homers and 51 RBIs this season, will leave for Cleveland on Monday and take his physical Tuesday. He plans to attend an Indians home game against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday and will then report to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in Niles, Ohio, to join the Indians’ short-season Class-A minor league affiliate in the New York-Penn League.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The slot value for the No. 154 overall pick is listed at $338,700.

Tom will give up his senior year of eligibility with the Wildcats.

The 5-foot-8 outfielder is the third consecutive Saint Louis alumnus to get drafted and sign professionally in as many years, joining catcher Iolana Akau in 2013 and right-hander Jordan Yamamoto last year. They were both taken directly out of high school.
