UH water polo team wins 2 matches
The No. 13 Hawaii water polo team defeated Occidental 18-5 and No. 11 UC San Diego 11-6 on Saturday at the Claremont Convergence in Claremont, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine (11-4) finished the tournament 4-0. Chloe Barr led Hawaii with four goals against Occidental and scored two goals against UC San Diego.
Balasi loses on Friday Night Fights
Hawaii’s Mike Balasi lost a six-round unanimous decision to Dusty Hernandez Harrison in the opening bout of ESPN2’s "Friday Night Fights" telecast from the Pala Casino Resort and Spa in California.
Balasi (7-4) knocked down Harrison (21-0) in the second, but was knocked down himself in both the second and the fifth. The three judges scored the fight 60-53, 59-54 and 59-54 in Harrison’s favor.
Balasi’s last three losses have all come against undefeated fighters.
Hawaii women edge Idaho in tennis
The Hawaii women’s tennis team beat No. 51 Idaho 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. Martina Kostalova gave Hawaii (4-7) the win by beating Galina Bykova 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
>> The Hawaii Pacific men’s and women’s tennis teams each beat Hawaii Hilo 9-0 on Saturday. The HPU men improved to 6-0 and the HPU women are 7-1. Both Hilo teams are 0-5.
UHH softball team sweeps Holy Names
The Hawaii Hilo softball team swept Holy Names 2-1 and 6-0 in a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday in Hilo. Rebecca Lee finished the day with five hits and two doubles for Hilo (12-8, 7-4).
>> Notre Dame de Namur swept a PacWest doubleheader from Brigham Young-Hawaii, 6-0 and 5-2, on Saturday at Sand Island Park. The Seasiders are 2-12, 2-8.
