A Kailua man who told police on Tuesday that a masked intruder attacked him in his home has reported that the same thing happened on Friday.

The 38-year-old man, who has been identified as a firefighter, told police he discovered a masked intruder in his Kahili Street home about 12:55 p.m. Friday. He said he struggled with the intruder, who injured him with an unknown object. He told police the intruder fled on foot. Police said the injury was not serious and the man did not need medical treatment.

On Tuesday, the man told police he found a masked intruder in his home when he returned from work about 8:30 a.m. He told police he confronted the intruder, who injured him with an unknown object then fled on foot.

School officials placed nearby Keolu and Enchanted Lake elementary schools on lockdown briefly while police searched for a suspect.

City Emergency Medical Services said an ambulance crew treated the man at his home for a single stab wound to his abdomen and then transported him to a hospital in serious condition.

Honolulu police described the firefighter’s injury as a superficial puncture wound that was not life-threatening. Based on what the firefighter told them, police classified Tuesday’s case as an attempted murder and Friday’s case as a robbery. They have not identified or arrested any suspects.

Honolulu Police Department spokeswoman Michelle Yu advised residents who suspect a break-in at home to call 911 immediately. She said the department advises against entering the home or confronting intruders.

HFD Capt. James Todd said Saturday that the firefighter has not returned to work after Tuesday’s incident.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said Saturday that she has lived in her home on Kahili Place for more than 50 years. She said neighbors are able to see all of the comings and goings on Kahili Street.

"This is a good neighborhood," she said.
