The body of a diver missing off Makaha Beach Park was found Friday, 23 miles southeast of Nawiliwili, Kauai.
Harold "JJ" Jackson, 50, was reported missing at 8:15 p.m. Monday about a mile off Makaha Beach Park.
The Coast Guard said a commercial tug going from Kauai to Oahu noticed a strobe light at 5:20 a.m. Friday which was attached to Jackson’s buoyancy control device. Jackson was not with the equipment, but the discovery prompted the search in a new area.
At 1:17 p.m. a body was recovered by a Coast Guard crew from Kauai and transported to Nawiliwili Harbor.
Ewa Beach accident victim identified
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified a 43-year-old Ewa Beach man who died Wednesday after a skateboard accident as David Pantohan of Ewa Beach.
Paramedics took Pantohan to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition following a motor vehicle accident on Ala Loa Street in Ewa Beach at 12:38 a.m. Tuesday. He died the following day.
Witnesses said Pantohan was seen holding onto a moving truck while skateboarding in the area.
2 men, 1 woman sought in Kalihi robbery
Police are looking for three suspects in a Friday morning robbery in Kalihi that sent one man to the hospital.
Police said a 61-year-old man was hospitalized following the incident, which occurred at 3:10 a.m. at a business on Kaluaopalena Street near the Dillingham Marukai store. A 44-year-old man refused medical treatment at the scene.
Police are looking for two men and a woman in connection with the robbery attempt on the two men.
Air conditioner might have ignited blaze
Fire damaged a second-story unit of a Makiki apartment building late Friday afternoon.
Honolulu firefighters responded to the two-alarm fire call at about 5:25 p.m. on the 1500 block of Liholiho Street. A preliminary investigation indicated that the fire started in an air-conditioning unit.
