Camanse-Stevens hasn’t been picked off yet

With a 15-for-17, 152-yard performance against Damien on Saturday, Kamehameha quarterback Makoa Camanse-Stevens is delving deeper into a streak that nobody statewide can match.

The senior has thrown 182 passes this season without an interception, unique among starting quarterbacks. It was a productive weekend for quarterbacks in general.

Punahou’s Larry Tuileta tossed two touchdown passes against ‘Iolani on Friday and has 20 for the season, along with 1,742 yards. The junior has scarcely been touched by defenders. He hasn’t been sacked in three games.

Nobody had as hot a night as Jarin Morikawa of Mililani did Friday. He threw for a career-high 408 yards and four TDs without a pick in an OIA Red West title-clinching win over Waipahu. Morikawa now has a state-high 2,165 passing yards, 23 TDs and six interceptions.

Kalani vs. Kaiser matches Miano vs. Lee brothers

The upcoming Kalani-Kaiser OIA football playoff game is so appealing, it was moved up a day to a Thursday so that OC 16 could televise it.

The appeal of former UH assistant coaches Ron Lee and Cal Lee — coordinators at Kalani — taking on former colleague Rich Miano, now the head coach at Kaiser, has given fans plenty to ponder.

Miano’s team is atop the OIA White standings at 6-1 (6-2 overall), heading into the regular-season finale at Kaiser Stadium. Whether it’s hype or not, the attention is a plus in his eyes.

"I have such a great staff. Basically, I oversee (our) coaches. Part of my job is promoting the program, fundraising, doing pep rallies," he said. "Media’s good for the program and the high school. If you don’t have the energy to be a coach, you shouldn’t be doing it."

Kalani (4-3, 4-4) needs a win just to have a shot at a tie for the final playoff berth.
