Two Canadian tourists were arrested Thursday after they got into a confrontation with two deputy sheriffs at the Honolulu Airport while being questioned about an incident on an Allegiant Air flight from Washington.

Both of the women are sisters from Surrey, British Columbia.

Toni Schwartz, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman, said the incident occurred at Honolulu Airport’s Gate 17 at 8:20 p.m. after the airport duty manager requested sheriff deputies investigate a report of disruption on the plane.

When the plane got to the gate, Schwartz said, the pilot asked that the two women be removed and be questioned because they had been belligerent with flight attendants during the flight.

While the two deputies were interviewing the two women, one of them allegedly assaulted a deputy sheriff, Schwartz said. The woman, 21, was arrested for assault of a law enforcement officer.

While making the arrest the other female suspect, her 22-year-old sister, tried to stop the deputies from making the arrest, and was arrested for interference with government operations. The women each posted bail of $100.

Charges are pending.
