The National Weather Service has extended Oahu’s flood advisory because of continuing rain in the Koolau Mountains.

Rain was falling at a rate of more than 2 inches an hour at times in the heaviest downpours, forecasters said.

Showers have been tapering off, but the advisory remains in effect until 6:30 a.m.

Other locations in the warning included Punaluu, Waiahole, Laie, Kaaawa, Hauula and Kahuku.

At 6:50 p.m., the stream gage at Punaluu Stream was at 6.75 inches and the gage at Kahana Stream was at 5.77 inches.

Heavy rain earlier in the day prompted a flash flood warning for Oahu from late this morning until about 3:19 p.m. Rainfall rates have exceeded 3 inches an hour at times, the National Weather Service said.

Nearly 16 inches of rain fell in Moanalua and more than 14 inches at the Halawa Tunnel over a 12 hour period Tuesday.

Flood advisories for Hawaii Kauai and Maui were lifted.

Forecasters warn not to cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. The best advice, forecasters say, is to "turn around, don’t drown."

Forecasters say there could still be windward and mauka showers in the morning Tuesday and showers in the afternoon in interior and leeward sections. But they shouldn’t be as heavy as Tuesday.

Vog could also return because of the light winds.

The usual moderate trade winds are expected to return Friday.
