BOE approves appointment of new HR assistant superintendent
Barbara Krieg, who has been director of human resources for the state of Hawaii the past three years, has been tapped to run the state Department of Education’s office of human resources as an assistant superintendent.
The Board of Education approved the appointment Tuesday. Krieg replaces Corey Moriyama, who vacated the position in March.
Krieg formerly was deputy director of the state’s human resources department before being appointed director in 2011 by Gov. Neil Abercrombie. She previously was an employment and labor attorney with Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing.
“Barbara’s experience within the state combined with her background in employment and labor law are tremendous assets to us within the Department of Education,” DOE Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi said in a statement.
Krieg holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a law degree from the University of California-Los Angeles Law School.
The board earlier this year approved increasing base salaries for the DOE’s six assistant superintendent positions to $120,000.
