Eldredge named St. Francis hoops coach
Former Hawaii Pacific University head baseball coach and Punahou star David "Boy" Eldredge has been named Saint Francis School’s head varsity boys basketball coach and associate athletic director.
Eldredge succeeds Sol Batoon, who was head coach of the Saint Francis varsity basketball program for all four years of its existence. The Saints have won the past three Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II titles and won the 2013 state D-II title. Batoon was dismissed before the end of the 2013-14 season.
Although best known as a baseball coach, Eldredge coached intermediate and junior varsity basketball at Punahou and was an outstanding player. He played on the 1978 state runner-up Punahou basketball team and on the 1979 state champion Buffanblu team.
