Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that sent a man in his 20s to the hospital in extremely critical condition just after midnight Saturday.

Emergency Medical Services reports a pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was crossing Kamehameha Highway near the Waimalu Shopping Center was he was hit and taken to the hospital in extremely critical condition at 12:24 a.m.

Police closed town-bound lanes of Kamehameha Highway between Hekaha and Kanuku streets while Traffic Division officers investigated the incident and reopened the lanes by 3:15 a.m.
