Construction gets going on condo tower

Workers from Berkel & Co. Contractors showed off a 250-foot-tall rig they are using to create 400 concrete foundation pillars, some as long as 132 feet, to support the Symphony Honolulu condo. The workers are Tony Gregovich, left, Dalton Knox, standing in back, Lany Ramboyon, Lisa Pabre, Les Kuratsu, Brian Zuckerman, James Gilliland, Maurice Kealiinohomoku and Walter Caraang.

There was a traditional Hawaiian blessing and groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for the 45-story Symphony Honolulu condo tower on the corner of Kapiolani Boulevard and Ward Avenue.
