Hawaii gas prices suddenly look good
California motorists now are experiencing really high gasoline prices. While Hawaii gas stayed about the same at $4.41 a gallon in the past week, prices soared by as much as 20 cents in California, reaching nearly $4.49 a gallon. At a station in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas, regular was going for $5.69 a gallon in cash or $5.79 by credit card, the reports. Hand-lettered signs displayed at the pumps read, "We are sorry, it is not our fault."
California’s increases are blamed on problems with an oil pipeline and a power outage that shut down a refinery, disrupting distribution and resulting in panic in hiking wholesale prices.
Dump your old TV and feel good about it
Why wait for spring to clean? Sunday’s "Green Zone" will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the state Capitol to provide that opportunity — and the chance to feel especially virtuous about it.
It’s a joint project of various groups that makes good use of used stuff, everything from YWCA Dress for Success and Goodwill Industries to companies in the recycling and e-cycling business.
They’ll take one TV per household and unlimited quantities of computers, printers, scanners, cellphones, printer cartridges, PDAs, newspaper, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray, video games, telephone books, magazines, used eyeglasses and hearing aids, cooking oil, reusable household items and clothing, prom dresses and career attire and accessories. There will be machines for recycling HI-5 containers, too.
We’ll have to wait and see if there’s this kind of environmental consciousness when the Capitol opens for real business in January.
