President Barack Obama went out to dinner at Nobu in Waikiki Friday night after spending a day at the beach with his family.

Tourists snapped photos and took phone videos as the president and his family arrived at about 6:48 p.m.

Obama dined at Nobu during his last two vacations in Hawaii.

Earlier in the day the president and the first family left their Kailua vacation home at about 11 a.m. for Bellows Beach.

They arrived at Bellows Air Force Station at about 11:30 a.m. and spent time at the military side of the base until about 3 p.m., when they returned to their Kailua rental.

Reporters traveling with the president were kept away from the beach area where the first family enjoyed their fun in the sun.

Obama is not the first president to visit Bellows.

President Clinton stayed at Bellows during a visit in 1996.

Before leaving for the beach, the president separately called two senators to tell them he plans to push Congress to quickly extend expiring federal unemployment benefits.

More than 1 million Americans will lose benefits Saturday because Congress didn’t extend them. Republican Sen. Dean Heller of Nevada and Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island have proposed extending the benefits for three months.

The White House said Obama called it an urgent economic priority.

Earlier Friday morning, the president went for his usual morning workout at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

He spent about an hour at the gym, leaving the home just before 8 a.m. and returning shortly after 9 a.m.
