The top-ranked Hawaii Pacific men’s tennis team beat No. 4 Armstrong 5-3 in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday at Surprise, Ariz.
Marko Lenz, Clemens Graute, Thibaud Berland and Jaume Martinez-Vich won singles matches for the Sharks, who advanced to their second consecutive final.
Berland and Yann Renault won their doubles match.
HPU will face No. 2 Barry for the title on Saturday.
BYU-Hawaii women’s tennis struggles
The No. 3. Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s tennis team dropped all three doubles matches against No. 2 Barry before rain forced the suspension of their NCAA Division II Championships semifinal on Friday at Surprise, Ariz.
The singles matches will be played on Saturday. The winner will face No.1 Armstrong in the final.
Galdiano leads at Jennie K Invitational
Mariel Galdiano shot a 7-under-par 65 to take an eight-stroke lead after the first round of the Jennie K Wilson Invitational women’s golf tournament Friday at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Miyuu Goto is in second, and Mari Nishiura and Rose Huang are tied for third 10 strokes off the lead.
Galdiano, a Punahou School student, won her third consecutive girls state individual golf title earlier this month.
UH men’s basketball camps start in June
New Hawaii coach Eran Ganot will conduct three editions of UH’s Rainbow Warrior Basketball Camp starting early next month.
The camps — June 4-7, June 8-11 and Aug. 3-6 — run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the Stan Sheriff Center and around the Manoa lower campus. They are designed for boys and girls ages 6 to 17 and of all skill levels.
Each camp is $250, but signing up for multiple camps yields a discount ($50 discount for two camps and a $150 discount for all three camps). Campers receive a T-shirt, individual skills analysis and highlight tapes. Camp staff will feature current and former Rainbows players and coaches.

Silva named Saint Louis basketball coach
Saint Louis School has hired Allan Silva to take over the varsity basketball program, announced Friday by athletics director Wade Okamura. Silva was the head coach at Farrington High School for the past 11 years and has won multiple OIA and state championships. Before his coaching career, Silva was a basketball standout for Kailua High School and Chaminade University.
Florence, Asing out at Oi Rio Pro
Hawaii’s John John Florence and Keanu Asing fell short of the quarterfinals at the Oi Rio Pro on Friday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Florence and Asing won their respective Round 3 heats in clean three-to-five foot waves at Barra da Tijuca. Both surfers advanced to the fifth round, but Florence fell to Italo Ferreira 15.73 to 4.87, and Asing lost his heat to Bede Durbidge 13.67 to 5.20.
Moore, Weston-Webb win heats in Rio
Carissa Moore scored a 9.50 and Tatiana Weston-Webb posted a 11.43 to win their Round 1 heats at the Oi Rio Women’s Pro on Friday at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Malia Manuel placed second to Weston-Webb, while Coco Ho and Alessa Quizon finished third in their heats.
