Newspaper company asks judge to unseal ex-NFL star Hernandez documents
FALL RIVER, Mass. >> Newspaper company GateHouse Media is asking a judge to unseal documents relating to a juror in ex-New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez’s recent murder trial in Massachusetts.
The newspaper publisher will go before a judge in Fall River Friday to argue that information about the unidentified juror must be made public. The company publishes several New England newspapers.
Hernandez lawyer James Sultan recently filed papers under seal requesting an inquiry into the juror’s "exposure to significant extraneous matter."
New York-based GateHouse Media Inc. said last week the public has a right to review post-verdict proceedings, including information about a juror possibly exposed to information outside the courtroom.
Hernandez was convicted of the 2013 shooting death of acquaintance Odin Lloyd. The Bristol, Connecticut, native was sentenced to life in prison.
