A state judge on Thursday ordered a woman accused of trying to kill a 73-year-old woman in a Waikiki apartment parking garage to the Hawaii State Hospital for treatment.
Jill Hansen, 30, is charged with second-degree attempted murder and, in a separate case, third-degree assault.
Circuit Judge Richard Perkins found Hansen unfit for trial based on evaluations by three doctors this month and sent her to the psychiatric hospital for three months. She is scheduled for a review in December.
Hansen appeared in an orange prison uniform and briefly touched fingers with her mother before a deputy sheriff led her out of the courtroom. She did not speak to the judge.
Hansen, who claimed she was a professional surfer on her Facebook profile, was charged with following Elizabeth Conklin into a secured parking garage at a Waikiki apartment building on May 14 and striking her with a car.
Police said Hansen tried to hit Conklin again, but couldn’t because Conklin was wedged under another parked vehicle.
A maintenance man foiled Hansen’s third attempt to hit Conklin by smashing Hansen’s rear windshield with a crowbar, police said.
Hansen has also been charged with third-degree assault for allegedly striking a man with her surfboard on April 18.
Deputy Prosecutor Nicholas Lee said Hansen got into an altercation with the man over a wave at Ala Moana Bowls and told the man to paddle to shore. Once on shore, Hansen hit the man on his head with her board, resulting in a bruise, Lee said.
Last month, Hansen was also charged with three counts of violating a temporary restraining order involving her father. A fitness hearing for that case was scheduled for next week.
