Police seek suspects in 3 robberies
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding suspects in three robberies.
On Friday a man in his 20s displayed a handgun at Goodies Market on Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa and demanded money, police said. The robbery took place at 9:08 a.m., police said.
He was described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, 130 pounds, with short brown hair, wearing a dark blue jacket, khaki shorts and green camouflage cap.
On Tuesday at 2:09 a.m., a man in his early 20s demanded money from a cashier at a 7-Eleven store on Aiea Heights Drive, then left, police said.
He is described as 5 feet tall, 120 pounds, wearing a black-gray hoodie, white mask and dark jeans.
At 8:40 p.m. Tuesday a man approached a cashier at the Waipio Shell gas station on Ukee Street, demanded money, then left.
The suspect is described as 18 to 20 years old, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, 100 to 120 pounds, wearing a dark hoodie with white shorts. Anyone with information on these cases is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellphone.
Tourist couple rescued at Kauai beach
Lifeguards rescued a female tourist and her husband at Kealia Beach on Kauai on Christmas Day after the woman was swept into the ocean while taking photos and her husband, who tried to help her, also struggled in the ocean, Kauai County officials said.
Lifeguards performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the woman. The couple from Asia remained at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Thursday, with the woman, 28, in guarded condition and the man, 31, in satisfactory condition.
The incident happened around 1:25 p.m. Firefighters from the Kealia station arrived by 1:30 p.m. and helped lifeguards and medics with treatment.
Man accused of assaulting police officer
A man arrested for drinking and driving is facing a more serious charge after he allegedly assaulted a police officer.
Police said the 53-year-old Kaneohe man was initially arrested in Chinatown on Tuesday night.
After his arrest he allegedly assaulted an officer and was arrested at the Queen’s Medical Center at about 8:36 p.m. for the more serious offense.
Lifeguards hold man in suspected theft
Lifeguards helped stop a suspected thief in Waikiki on Christmas Eve, police said.
A beachgoer saw a 42-year-old man rummaging through a bag on the beach around 2 p.m. before he fled with it, according to police documents.
Lifeguards detained him until police arrived. He was arrested at 3:20 p.m. on Kalia Road near Fort DeRussy Beach Park on suspicion of second-degree theft.
All of the items in the bag he took were recovered.
Witnesses sought in Big Island car crash
Hawaii County police are looking for witnesses to a head-on traffic collision Sunday morning in Honomu.
The accident occurred 9:53 a.m. between a Pontiac Vibe heading south and a northbound Toyota Camry on Highway 19 (Hawaii Belt Road) near the Akaka Falls Road junction.
Police said the Pontiac driver, a 20-year-old Honomu woman, was taken in serious condition to Hilo Medical Center. The Toyota driver, a 67-year-old Hilo woman, her two passengers also from Hilo, a man, 69, and a woman, 75, were also seriously injured and taken to the Hilo hospital.
