Man killed in fall from truck identified
Maui police have identified the 23-year-old man who died Monday after falling from a moving pickup truck.
Police said Jared Robello climbed out of the cab of a Toyota Tacoma truck through the rear sliding window into the bed of the truck at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday on the Kula Highway about 1.7 miles south of Kealakapu Road.
Robello fell out of the truck bed while the truck was moving and suffered critical injuries. He died Monday night at the Maui Memorial Medical Center, police said.
Robello’s death is the fifth traffic fatality on Maui this year, compared with four at the same time last year.
Boy injured at bicycle motocross track
A 9-year-old male bicycle motocross rider was taken to a hospital in stable condition after being injured Wednesday afternoon at a track on Sand Island, according to Emergency Medical Services.
The incident was reported at 4:49 p.m. More details on the incident were not available.
Suspect charged with threatening, abuse
A 32-year-old Kapolei man was charged Tuesday with choking and detaining his girlfriend at his home during an argument this week.
James B. Dooley was arguing with his 28-year-old girlfriend Sunday night when the argument escalated and the suspect allegedly threatened and choked the victim. Police said the suspect refused to allow the woman to leave his home.
Dooley was arrested Monday and charged a day later with second-degree terroristic threatening, abuse and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. His bail was set at $4,000.
