Waipahu man seriously injured in crash
A crash near the Waipahu "banana patch" sent a motorist in his 20s to the hospital in critical condition Sunday.
Police said the man was driving westbound on Farrington Highway when he lost control of his vehicle, drove off of the road, hit a tree stump and came to rest in a nearby ditch.
Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash, police said.
Paramedics took the Waipahu man to the Queen’s Medical Center.
The crash, which involved only one vehicle and one occupant, shut down Farrington Highway westbound in the short stretch between Sam’s Club and Waipahu at about 4:20 a.m., police dispatch said. The road reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
Biker duo hospitalized after H-3 accident
Two men were badly injured after their motorcycles crashed on the H-3 eastbound at the Kaneohe offramp late Saturday night, a city emergency services official said.
One man, 22, was hospitalized in critical condition while a second man, 37, was hospitalized in serious condition, a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.
The 11:30 p.m. crash shut down the freeway’s eastbound offramp for about an hour.
Woman nearly drowns in Waikiki
A woman was left in critical condition Sunday afternoon after a near drowning in Waikiki.
The incident occurred off the Aston Waikiki hotel property around 4 p.m.
The woman was initially assisted by Ocean Safety personnel and taken to an area hospital by Emergency Medical Services.
No other details were available.
Teenager arrested in assault of woman
A 15-year-old Waipahu girl was arrested Saturday for allegedly assaulting a 49-year-old woman with a dangerous instrument.
Police said the incident occurred while the two were arguing Saturday morning. The victim suffered "substantial bodily injury," police said.
The girl ran away but was located, identified and arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault about 40 minutes later.
Girlfriend accuses man of striking her
Police arrested a 28-year-old Waimanalo man Saturday afternoon in an assault of his girlfriend, with whom he had recently reunited.
According to police, the victim, a 28-year-old woman, has a temporary restraining order against the suspect but had recently moved back in with him. She told police that she and the suspect were arguing when he struck her in the face.
The man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Fire damages Kula warehouse
An unoccupied warehouse in Kula went up in flames Saturday night, causing $116,000 in damage but no injuries, Maui County officials said.
Investigators determined that overheated equipment caused the fire at the 2,000-square-foot building at 3361 Omaopio Road, officials said.
Crews arrived at 8:16 p.m. Saturday to find the warehouse, used as an office and greenhouse, and containing two bedrooms, 30 percent involved in flames, officials said. The fire was under control about 10 minutes later.
Officials estimated damage to the structure at $100,000 and contents at $16,000.
