Kai headlines alumnae

Olympic gold medalist Natasha Kai is among the former Rainbow Wahine soccer players slated to return to Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium on Saturday for UH’s annual alumnae match.

The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Kai was the first player from Hawaii named to the U.S. Women’s World Cup team in 2007 and contributed to a gold medal run in the 2008 Olympic Games. She remains UH’s all-time leader in points (162) and goals (72).

The current Rainbow Wahine (5-5) return home after going 3-1 on a 12-day road trip and the alumnae match bridges the nonconference schedule and Big West season. UH opens conference play Oct. 2 against Cal State Fullerton at WPSS. Storm Kenui was named Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

BASKETBALL

Rainbow Warriors scrimmage on Oct. 4

The Rainbow Warrior basketball team make its public debut in the Green and White scrimmage on Oct. 4 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The scrimmage will follow the Rainbow Wahine volleyball match against UC Irvine and is scheduled to start at approximately 10 p.m. Admission to the scrimmage is free.

The festivities include a dunk contest at halftime of the scrimmage, which will be followed by an autograph session. The ‘Bows hold their first official practice on Oct. 3.

The Rainbow Wahine basketball team’s Green and White scrimmage is scheduled for Oct. 26.

SWIMMING

Alkhaldi just misses finals

UH senior Jasmine Alkhaldi was the top reserve for the finals in her first three events at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Alkhaldi is the lone female swimmer representing the Philippines and finished third in her heat in the 100-meter freestyle on Monday with a time of 56.92 seconds. She swam the 100 butterfly in 1:02.34 on Tuesday and posted a time of 2:02.84 in the 200 freestyle. All three qualifying times left her one spot out of the eight-swimmer finals.

She is also entered in the 50 freestyle scheduled for Friday.
