Driver is charged in 2010 negligent homicide case
The driver of a fatal one-car crash in Pupukea two years ago was charged with felony negligent homicide and other offenses Saturday.
Brittany Poole, 24, was indicted by an Oahu grand jury in August 2011.
Poole’s bail was set at $20,000 for the negligent homicide charge, $1,500 each for two contempt charges, and $100 for an additional contempt charge. She was also charged with driving without a license.
Poole was driving around the island with four passengers on Nov. 21, 2010, when, prosecutors allege, she started arguing with the front-seat passenger over her speeding. Police said Poole lost control of the car, which then crossed the center line on Kamehameha Highway, hit a rock wall, a parked vehicle and two fences, went airborne and flipped over before slamming into a carport.
Back-seat passenger Unique Murry, 21, was ejected from the car and later died from his injuries.
Deputy Prosecutor Kelli Lee said Poole was speeding, drinking beer and smoking marijuana at the time of the accident.
Man arrested after standoff with police ends peacefully
A 46-year-old man holed up for four hours inside a Kaneohe apartment surrendered peacefully to police at about 2 p.m. Saturday.
Police said deputy sheriffs had gone to his home on Kahuhipa Street to serve two warrants, but he refused to accept service and remained inside.
Police officers, including a Specialized Services Division unit, were called to the barricade situation at 10:30 a.m. Two negotiators with the Sheriff Division also responded.
The man, identified as Lance Fox, who has a lengthy criminal record, surrendered without incident. Police arrested Fox on two warrants. His bail was set at $45,000 and $50,000 on the two counts.
