Outdoor same-sex marriage celebration canceled
Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s Marriage Equality Family Day and Celebration at Thomas Square was canceled because of the weather.
The event was scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
However, the pre-registration of couples who will be married just after midnight was relocated to the Mayor’s Office of Culture and Arts (MOCA), 550 South King St., 2nd Floor. License agents and event organizers were available from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Anyone who planned to get married after midnight at Leahi – The Club Lounge at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, checked in at an information and registration booth. Interested couples had to pre-register in advance to receive their packet and ticket for the midnight ceremonies being held at the Sheraton Waikiki. Over 25 couples have signed up, including couples from the neighbor islands.
Attendees are asked to bring canned foods to donate to Save the Food Basket in recognition of World Aids Day today. Donations to the Red Cross will also be taken to aid the families in the Philippines affected by the recent typhoon.
