UH student reports sexual assaults
A student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa said she was sexually assaulted repeatedly Saturday night in a campus apartment.
The student made the report Wednesday to campus security after she had informed her mother earlier, UH campus security reported.
UH issued a security alert Wednesday regarding the sexual assault report that involved a student victim and more than one suspect.
Wayne Ogino, UH chief of campus security, said the first male suspect reportedly raped the student in a dorm room, and other males assaulted her later. She did not report the number of attackers to campus security.
The student was reluctant to report the assaults, and provided vague details.
Ogino said he does not know whether the assaults occurred in the student’s room or another dormitory. He also doesn’t know how many assailants were involved and whether they were also UH students.
A report also was filed with police.
The student was heading home to the mainland Thursday with her mother, Ogino said.
"Students just need to be careful about situations they get themselves into," he said.
