Lifeguard program welcomes teenagers
Registration is open for this year’s City & County of Honolulu Junior Lifeguard Summer Program for teens ages 13 to 17.
Bring completed registration forms, available online at myjuniorguards.com, to one of four events:
» April 27: 9 a.m. to noon at the Ewa end of Ala Moana Beach Park and at Makaha Beach Park.
» May 4: 9 a.m. to noon at Kalama Beach Park and at Ehukai Beach Park.
Registration must be completed in person. Applicants are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Lifeguards will instruct the teens in swimming and surf rescue techniques, physical conditioning, CPR and first aid, and lifeguard rescue-related skills. Students will receive a certificate of course completion at the end of the program. Weekly training sessions run May 27 to July 19 at Ala Moana and other beach parks. Swimwear, water and home lunch are required.
Applicants must turn 13 before June 1, 2013, and possess the ability to swim at least 500 yards.
