Investigators suspect arson at Makiki apartment fire
An overnight fire that damaged a Makiki apartment is believed to have been intentionally set, according to fire officials.
Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of another that damaged a home in Wahiawa early this morning.
No one was injured by the fire in both instances.
The first alarm was turned in at 9:46 p.m. Thursday at a six-story building on Hassinger Street in Makiki. Damage was estimated at $1,000 to the building and $100 to the contents of the sixth-floor apartment where the tenants were in the process of moving out, said Capt. Tyler Chan, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.
The other fire was reported at 5:57 a.m. today at a Leilehua Road home in Wahiawa. The fire was extinguished by 7 a.m.
Damage estimated at $50,000 to the single family structure and $20,000 to its contents. The fire was contained to one bedroom and a hallway, Chan said.
