Police track down alleged gun thief hiding in office building
A 29-year-old Waikiki man was charged with several weapons violations Tuesday after he was found hiding with a stolen handgun in the stairwell of a Kapalama business building complex.
Police said Stephen Rogers, 29, allegedly stole the gun from a Pau Street residence in Waikiki Sunday evening. A few hours later, police received a report of someone matching Rogers’ description carrying a handgun .
Officers found Rogers with the gun a few hours later in the second-floor stairwell of a business complex in the 1000 block of Dillingham Boulevard, police said. He was later positively identified by the witness and arrested at 8:22 p.m., police said.
Prosecutors charged Rogers with three counts of weapons and ammunition violations and first and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $20,000.
