Gayot, the international guide to dining, hotels and travel, has included Chef Mavro in its 2014 list of top 40 restaurants in the U.S. Chef Mavro was the only Hawaii eatery listed. 

The restaurant, owned and operated by James Beard award winner George Mavrothalassitis since 1998, prepares seasonal, locally produced ingredients to present four- and six-course meals and a Grand Degustation meal that offers tastings of every dish on the menu, including delectable creations by pastry chef Elizabeth Dippong. 

Chef Mavro earned three toques, an "excellent" rating, with a score of 18 out of a possible 20 points. The rating is based solely on cuisine. The restaurant has been on Gayot’s list every year since 2007. 

Other restaurants on the top 40 include Daniel, Jean-Georges and Per Se in New York; Alinea in Chicago; the French Laundry, Gary Danko and Michael Mina in California; Joel Robuchon in Las Vegas; and The Barn at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee.
