6 hurt in Waipahu car crash
A three-car collision in Waipahu on Saturday night injured six people, three of them seriously.
A 21-year-old male driver and a 23-year-male passenger were seriously injured when their vehicle was rear-ended on Kamehameha Highway near Lumiauau Street at about 8:30 p.m., said Shayne Enright, a spokeswoman for city emergency services.
Both were transported to a local trauma center.
The driver of the second car, a 22-year-old woman, also was seriously injured. Her passenger, a 13-year-old boy, was in stable condition.
The third car hit the rear of the second car, injuring the male driver, 72, and his female passenger, 70. Both were taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Moanalua man held in assault
A 24-year-old Moanalua man was arrested Saturday after his girlfriend claimed that he punched her, choked her and cut her with a knife. The incident occurred at about 1:30 a.m. after an argument escalated, and the woman, 21, tried to get away from the man, police said.
The man was arrested at 4:20 p.m. on suspicion of felony abuse of a household member, according to police records. The woman was taken to a local hospital but refused treatment, police said.
