Oahu drivers planning to use the H-1 freeway Sunday through early Monday morning could face repair-related traffic delays, state transportation officials warn.
There will be multiple lane closures in the Ewa-bound H-1 freeway between the Pearl City/Waimalu offramp and the Waipahu offramp for viaduct repairs starting 9 a.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. Monday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Two Koko Head-bound freeway lanes from the Kamehameha Highway overpass to the H-1 and H-2 merge also will be closed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
The roadwork is scheduled to take place every Sunday in April, DOT spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter said. The project faces noise restrictions at night, and short work hours limit the area that can be fixed at one time, she said.
However, working on Sunday allows the department to get four times more work done, shortening the overall repair project’s duration, she added.
