Twelve modular buildings donated by Kamehameha Schools are being shipped at a discount by Young Brothers Ltd. to Kauai for use at two public charter schools.

The modular units are due to arrive Saturday and will be used at Kawaikini Public Charter School in Lihue and Kanuikapono Learning Center in Anahola.

 “For our teachers and students it is a dream about to come true,” said Ipo Torio, Kanuikapono’s executive director. “The money saved for the shipping will go to creating a much needed playground for the new campus and for much needed supplies and materials.” 

Kamehameha Schools donated 22 modular buildings to five Hawaiian-focused charter schools after the structures had been used as temporary classrooms during renovations at its Kapalama campus. Glenn Hong, Young Brothers president, said his company was pleased to support the project.

“The impact of these modular buildings will be significant at Kawaikini,” said Kaleimakamae Ka‘auwai, executive director.
