Jellyfish invasion closes Hanauma Bay
City lifeguards have closed Hanauma Bay due to a heavy influx of box jellyfish today.
Ocean Safety officials advised the Parks and Recreation Department to close the beach at Hanauma due to a high influx of jellyfish stings. The parks department closed the beach area at 11:09 am.
Lifeguards reported 25 stings from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and more than 35 stings total at Hanauma Bay today.
EMS was called for one patient but the teenager was not transported to a hospital, officials say.
Ocean Safety officials plan to reassess the area Saturday morning.
