Employers at today’s job fair say positions plentiful

Hawaiian Airlines, Hawaii Pacific Health and Bank of Hawaii were among the 180 employers looking to hire workers at today’s Job Quest job fair at the Neal Blaisdell Center.

As the economy continues to improve more employers are looking to add to their workforce, expecially in areas that require specialized skills, said Beth Busch, who organizes the state’s largest job fair held three times a year at the Blaisdell. About 4,000 job seekers attended today’s event, she said.

Hawaii Pacific Health, which operates hospitals on Oahu and Kauai, is hiring for 300 positions such as radiology technician, respiratory therapist and medical assistant, said Carl Hinson, HPC’s director of workforce development.

Hawaiian Airlines has openings for more than 100 flight attendants and 30 mechanics that will be needed to staff new routes recently added b the airlines. Tha Airline expects to add 90 pilots next year, said Sunshine Topping, the company’s director of recruiting.

Bank of Hawaii needs to fill dozens of back office positions, including 35 to 40 jobs in its information technology section,  said Grant Shindo, corporate recruiter for BOH.
