BYU-Hawaii beats Western State
Eight players scored in double figures as the Brigham Young-Hawaii men’s basketball team defeated Western State (Colo.) 105-64 on Saturday in Laie.
Jordan Ngatai led the Seasiders (1-0) with 15 points and Tyler Tuilau scored 12. DeAndre Medlock, Cory Lange, Robbie Mitchell, Pablo Coro, BJ Ford and Jerome Harris each scored 10 points. Mason Biddle had 16 points for the Mountaineers (0-1).
» Alli Madison and Jessica Madison scored 15 points each to lead the Alaska-Anchorage women’s basketball team to a 99-52 win over BYU-Hawaii on Saturday in Laie. Danna Lynn Hooper had 21 points and Jiashan Cui added 18 for BYUH (0-2). Anchorage is 2-0.
Nelson wins Aloha PGA Pro title
Kirk Nelson of Kihei won the Aloha PGA Professional Championship and earned an exemption to play in January’s Sony Open.
Nelson finished the two-day event with a 2-under 142 at Mauna Kea Golf Course on Friday. The Sony Open is scheduled for Jan. 9 to 12 at Waialae Country Club. Nelson also earned a berth to June’s PGA Professional National Championship in South Carolina.
