More than 4,000 gallons of wastewater spills in Makiki
A clogged pipe caused a 4,050 gallon wastewater spill in Makiki Wednesday afternoon, the city Department of Environmental Services reported.
Crews responded to the spill at 1207 Lilo Place at 5:10 p.m. They cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the area and brought the spill under control by 7:15 p.m.
The state Department of Health was notified.
An Environmental Services Department spokesman said roots clogging a 6-inch terra cotta pipe caused a manhold to overflow and send the untreated wastewater into a box culvert at 1214 Nehoa St.
