Chun makes U.S. women’s world team
Olympic bronze medalist Clarissa Chun was named to the U.S. women’s world wrestling team, which will compete at the Women’s World Championships in Strathcona County, Alberta, on Sept. 27-29. Chun earned her spot by winning the bronze at the London Olympics.
Chun is a 2008 world champion and is now a five-time member of a U.S. world team.
Payne advances to third round
Hawaii’s Dusty Payne won his first-round heat on Sunday in the Hurley Pro surf contest at Lower Trestles in San Clemente, Calif.
Payne scored 12.47 to Kai Otton’s 12.00 and fellow Hawaii surfer John John Florence’s 9.00.
Payne advanced to the third round today, surf permitting. Florence and Fred Patacchia, who took second in his heat, will surf in the second round of the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour contest.
