Aspel leads Chaminade’s softball sweep
Brett Aspel pitched a four-hitter to lead Chaminade past Academy of Art 4-1 in the first game of a softball doubleheader sweep of Academy or Art on Wednesday in Brisbane, Calif.
Aspel also pitched four shutout innings of relief in the second game, a 2-1 Silverswords win.
Rayna Strom Okimoto led the way at the plate for Chaminade (18-14, 14-8 Pacific West Conference), going 5-for-8 with two RBIs in the two games combined.
Lauren Stover went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the two games for the Urban Knights (10-21, 8-12).
Aubrey powers Hawaii Hilo to 2 wins
Hawaii Hilo’s Colleen Aubrey went 2-for-4 with three RBIs in an 11-0 victory over Dominican to cap a doubleheader sweep Wednesday in San Rafael, Calif.
Aubrey went 2-for-4 in the opener, an 8-0 win by the Vulcans (26-14, 17-5 Pacific West Conference).
Vanessa Salinas hurled a six-inning, three-hitter in the first game, while Ashley Nelson and Hannah Peterson combined for a five-inning three-hitter in the second game for UHH.
Six different players had the six hits — all singles — on the day for the Penguins (5-33, 0-20).
