A third-round 77 on Thursday leaves 1996 state high school champion Parker McLachlin in danger of not advancing from the Web.com Tour Second Stage qualifying event in Kingwood, Texas.
McLachlin, who won the PGA Tour’s 2008 Reno-Tahoe Open, dropped into a tie for 47th at 8-over-par 224. He had five birdies, five bogeys, a double- and triple-bogey in his third round.
San Jose’s John Ellis, the 2011 Hawaii Pearl Open champion, moved up to a tie for 16th with a 2-under 70 that put him at 218.
After today’s final round, the top 20 and ties move on to next month’s Final Stage. Everyone who qualifies for that tournament gets playing privileges on the 2014 Web.com Tour, with priority based on Final-Stage finish.
Hawaii’s Tadd Fujikawa and Sam Cyr play in Second-Stage tournaments next week. Approximately 144 will go to Final Stage.
Phatlum leads Ochoa event by 1
GUADALAJARA, Mexico » Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum took the first-round lead in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, birdieing seven of the first 13 holes at Guadalajara Country Club and finishing at 6-under 66.
Amy Yang was a stroke back.
