Space Mountain remains closed at Disneyland
ANAHEIM, Calif. >> Disneyland visitors won’t be taking galactic voyages any time soon as one of its most popular rides is closed indefinitely two weeks after state safety regulators cited the park for hazards.
The Los Angeles Times reports Disney officials have no estimate when Space Mountain will reopen. The attraction was closed earlier this month after state officials said safety rules were violated when a contractor fell and suffered broken bones last November while cleaning the exterior of Space Mountain.
The contract company was fined nearly $61,000 for the safety violations. The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health has proposed a nearly $235,000 penalty against Disneyland in connection with the contractor’s injury.
Disney has not decided whether it will appeal the penalties.
