Library talk tackles bullying concerns
Hawaii Kai Public Library is hosting a free self-esteem-building program for teens in an effort to curb bullying.
Marlenea Salmu of Intelligent One, a nonprofit group with a mission to empower teens, will lead the one-hour program, "Building Self-Worth and Self-Esteem in Teens and Young Adults," at 11 a.m. Sept. 29.
The program, aimed at teens age 15 and older, will include games, short films and discussion.

Strategies counter social pressures
Author and former teacher Horacio Sanchez will address influences facing youths in "What Every Parent Should Know," a free presentation Sept. 26, 7 – 8:30 p.m., at Punahou School’s Thurston Memorial Chapel.
Sanchez will discuss strategies for parents as he explains how society affects children’s ability to focus, demonstrate empathy and resist impulsive behavior.
