Maui police investigate bomb threats against Kahului stores
Maui police say bomb threats against two Kahului stores appear to be related and they are investigating the incidents as terroristic threatening cases.
In both cases, a caller threatened to set off a bomb unless the business put money into a reloadable Visa debit card, police said.
The first incident happened at about 10:24 a.m. Friday at the Kmart in Kahului. A male caller told an employee that there was a bomb in the store that would go off unless money was added to the debit card.
The other incident happened at 10:55 at the Walgreens store in Kahului, when a male caller made a similar demand.
No money was sent and both businesses evacuated customers and employees from the stores.
A search of both stores did not find any suspicious items, police said.
