A 47-year-old former Hawaii charter school principal wanted for theft and money laundering was arrested by U.S. Marshals in California Monday.

Jeffrey Piontek, the former principal of Hawaii Technology Academy, was arrested at a residence in Santa Monica, Calif.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Piontek was wanted by the state Attorney General’s office for allegedly stealing and laundering $100,000 in school funds. He was fired in December 2011 and later fled while the allegations were being investigated.  

Piontek was wanted for two counts of first-degree theft and three counts of second-degree theft, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

He was booked into the Los Angeles County Jail pending a court appearance and extradition to Honolulu.
