No. 13 Hawaii sweeps UC Irvine in volleyball
Senior hitter Emily Hartong put down 13 kills and senior libero Ali Longo added 18 digs and three aces as No. 13 Hawaii snapped a two-match losing skid with a 25-22, 25-16, 25-23 sweep of UC Irvine in a Big West volleyball match Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Freshman hitter Nikki Taylor and sophomore middle Jade Vorster each had added seven kills for the Rainbow Wahine (17-4, 6-3) who ran their series record against the Anteaters to 30-0
Arielle Manz led UCI (11-12, 2-7).
Hawaii hosts Long Beach State (12-9, 5-3) in a 7 p.m. Saturday.
Longo’s 7-0 serving run in Set 1 was key for the Wahine, who trailed late at 21-16. A service error by UCI — one of 14 on the night – closed the gap to 21-17.
Longo served for seven straight, a spurt that included two aces, as UH took set point at 24-21.

One sideout later, Vorster ended it.
Hawaii dominated Set 2 but struggled to close out the match. Set 3 was tied at eight times, the last at 23-23.
Hartong put down her final kill and Tayler Higgins ended it with the ninth Wahine ace.
