Second suspect charged in Kona burglary case

Hawaii County police have charged a second suspect in connection with a burglary in Kailua-Kona on April 5.

Ammon K. Kamohai, 22, of Kailua-Kona was arrested Monday on two warrants for revoking probation in a drug case and on suspicion of promoting a dangerous drug. He was also wanted for questioning in connection with additional felonies.

Kamohai’s bail for the probation revocation charges was set at $100,000.

On Tuesday police arrested him on the additional felonies, including those connected with an April burglary on Queen Kalama Avenue.

Kamohai on Wednesday was charged him with first-degree burglary, second-degree theft, attempted second-degree theft and forgery for the April 5 burglary.

The other suspect in the April 5 burglary, Tonino Benson, 23, of Kailua-Kona, was charged on April 12 with the same offenses.

Kamohai was also charged Wednesday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle for allegedly removing a vehicle from the parking lot of an apartment complex off Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona sometime between Sunday and Monday. His bail on those charges was $65,000.

Kamohai was not charged in the drug case pending investigation.
